WHY ARE WE LIKE THIS?

Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground is a unique option for families who want to combine a camping experience with a Disney vacation. With spacious campsites, beautiful landscaping, and an impressive list of resort-style amenities, it offers much more than a typical campground. The biggest draw for us was the location—it made visiting the Disney parks incredibly convenient while still giving us a place to relax at the end of the day.

Overall, Fort Wilderness is a well-maintained, family-friendly campground with an unbeatable location and an impressive selection of amenities. The campsites aren’t particularly secluded but are thoughtfully landscaped and the cleanliness, pools, dining, and proximity to the parks make this a campground we would consider staying at again.

The location is easily one of Fort Wilderness’s biggest advantages. Being only about 10–15 minutes from the Disney parks made getting back and forth incredibly convenient, especially with kids. You get the benefit of staying within the Disney resort bubble without being in a traditional hotel. The campground itself is large, so having a secondary mode of transportation like bikes or a golf cart is especially helpful for getting around to the pools, dining, and recreation areas as some of these areas are not accessible by car.

Views & Wildlife: 2/5

Fort Wilderness has beautiful mature foliage throughout the campground, which gives the sites a much more natural feel despite the campground being fairly developed. We spotted wildlife including a wild turkey and deer during our stay. That said, if you’re expecting a true wilderness experience, you may be a little disappointed—the majority of the wildlife we saw seemed to be families riding around on golf carts! Bugs also weren’t a major issue for us while staying at the campsite, which was a pleasant surprise for a Florida campground.

Campsites: 3/5

The campsites were very well maintained, but they are not particularly secluded. Most sites are relatively close together, although the mature foliage helped create a pleasant atmosphere. Our site itself was quiet in terms of neighboring campers, but we did experience a fair amount of road noise as well as noise from the nearby pool. There were also plenty of conveniently located trash disposal areas throughout the campground, which made keeping the site clean easy.

Facilities: 5/5

The facilities are where Fort Wilderness really stands out. The campground offers three pools, hot tubs, and a splash pad, making it especially appealing for families with children. There are also two arcades and several dining options, ranging from quick-service restaurants and bars to full dinner shows. The stores were well-stocked with Disney souvenirs and carried a small selection of basic camping supplies, although the camping selection was fairly minimal. The comfort stations were plentiful and exceptionally clean, which was another major plus. Overall, the facilities feel much more like a Disney resort than a traditional campground.

• You will want bikes, a golf cart, or another means of getting around without your car.
• Golf carts are available to rent, but we just used our bikes!
• Sites are full hookup- no dumping required.
• You can request a site close to a comfort station or transportation, but you are not able to choose a specific site and will be assigned a site upon check-in.
