Why Are We Like This?
There are two kinds of vacationers;
The people who spend an entire week at one beach, reading books by the pool and taking afternoon naps.
…and then there’s us.
We’re the family that looks at a map and says, “You know what’s only 30 minutes away?” twelve different times in one day.
Somewhere along the way, we realized we don’t really vacation.
We collect experiences.
If there’s a waterfall, cave, historic site, scenic overlook, quirky roadside attraction, local restaurant, hidden trail, and national park within driving distance…
We’re going to try to see all of them.
Do we sometimes wonder why we planned a sunrise hike after getting back to camp at 10:30 the night before?
Absolutely.
Do we keep doing it anyway?
Also, absolutely.
Wait…You Did How Much in One Trip?
People are always shocked when they hear our travel plans.
“You sure you want to drive that far?”
“You fit all of that into one week?”
“Are your kids gonna be up for all that?”
The answer is usually yes.
Not because we’re trying to break some vacation record, but because our family genuinely loves adventure. Our kids have learned that every stop has a story, very national park has something different to discover, every small town has a local favorite worth trying.
We’ve found that kids are often capable of much more than adults expect—as long as they’re part of the adventure.

Why We Travel This Way
Time is limited.
Our kids are growing up fast.
There will come a day when they won’t want to pile into the car for another cross-country adventure.
So while we can, we’re making memories instead of waiting for “someday.”
Are the trips exhausting?
So very exhausting .
Are they always perfect?
Definitely not.
But years from now, I don’t think our kids will remember the tired nights or long drives.
I think they’ll remember sledding down the sand dunes, spotting bison on an unplanned hike, squeezing through caves, watching the sunrise in a national park, racing to get the museum before it closed, and laughing because somehow Mom and Dad thought adding “just one more stop” was a good idea.
So…Why Are We Like This?
Honestly?
We believe experiences are one of the best investments a family can make.
If that sounds like your kind of travel, welcome.
I think you’re going to fit right in.
